Coaching

What is coaching and what do coaches do?

Coaches help clients identify what is most important to them, personally and professionally, and supports them in achieving their goals.

In other words, a coach will:

1. Help clients determine specific goals they truly want;

2. Encourage them to achieve more than they would on their own;

3. Focus clients to produce measurable results more efficiently and effectively;

4. Provide clients with structure, tools, and support to succeed.

How do coaches do this?

By sharing information, providing structure, instilling motivation, raising standards, generating momentum, and celebrating success.

How is coaching different from counseling?

Coaching focuses on the present and future; counseling often focuses on the past.

Coaching takes a solution-oriented approach; counseling takes a problem-oriented approach.

Coaching empowers clients to come up with their own best answers; counseling often provides clients with answers.

Growth in coaching comes from taking action and learning from experience; growth in counseling comes from talking about problems.

There are times when counseling is absolutely the right approach, like when dealing with issues that are overwhelming, or when a person is unable to cope with physical, mental, emotional, social, or spiritual issues. But for most people who want more in their lives but aren’t exactly sure how to achieve it, coaching is the right approach.

Who, besides elite athletes, hires coaches?

Just about everyone. Professionals, managers, students, entrepreneurs, business owners, career changers, to name just a few. Everyone who wants to achieve more (and better) results faster than they could on their own. It’s as simple as that.
