Habit Masters™: Change Your Habits, Change Your Life

A Franklin-Covey survey of more than 15,000 people reported in the New York Times indicates that four out of five people who make New Year’s resolutions won’t keep them. In fact, a third won’t even make it until the end of January. Other surveys suggest that the same resolution repeatedly lands on a New Year’s list ten years in a row, with 25 percent of these so-called “commitments” being abandoned within the first fifteen weeks, only to be dusted off again the following year.

What’s happening here? Why do so many of us go through this annual “ritual of failure,” whether in January or any other time of the year? Why do we fail so often, even with our best intentions, our health and happiness at stake? More importantly, what can be done to reverse this miserable track record so we can learn to change our habits and achieve the results we do desperately want and need?

Most people feel powerless over the force of their habitual behavior, whether it has to do with weight management, sticking with an exercise program, smoking cessation, getting more organized, saving money, balancing work and family, or even watching less television.

The bottom line is that success isn’t about will power, it’s about skill power. Most people just don’t know the principles and practices of successful habit change. That’s what Habit Masters is all about. This powerful program shows why most people fail in their attempts to change, and outlines a step-by-step process for changing most any habit by changing how you think and what you do that builds momentum toward the goals you seek.
