These two video segments are from a talk I gave in May 2011 to Career Connectors, a great organization that provides an abundance of support services for folks who are out of work or underemployed. The title of the talk was “Keeping Your Head Up in Down Times.” It focuses on ten critical tools for developing resilience to help bounce back from any kind of adversity, personal or professional. The presentation offers participants practical skills to manage their morale in difficult times to help them achieve “mental fitness,” regardless of the circumstances.

The first segment is on “reframing your pictures,” which is a powerful psychological tool for seeing a situation from multiple points of view (“frames of reference”) so that the best course of action can be determined. Reframing helps decrease powerlessness and increase creativity in dealing with adversity.

The second segment is on “work your game plan,” which offers an eight-step model for maximizing weekly productivity with setting and achieving goals, avoiding procrastination, and learning to be more successful everyday.
